One-liner that describes the essence of your project
Our farm provides fresh and healthy food for local residents, explores a new business model of urban farm, and takes into account both social impact and ecological effects while maximizing economic benefits.
Total concept pitch
It is meaningless to design without considering the current situation of the site. The site has an elevation difference of up to 8m. Our team used many strategies in the design, such as building earth covered buildings, designing terrace landscape and building ramps to eliminate the height difference. In addition to the terrain, we also put forward many strategies to enhance social impact and build ecological farms. How to provide open activity space, organic food, and healthy life concept to everyone fairly is the design goal that our group has always implemented. Our project is located in Washington, D.C.'s 7th Ward, an area that has low employment rates and incomes, as well as residents who have had limited access to fresh, healthy food. In order to change this situation, we designed a new type of urban farm: in the architectural landscape design, we focuses on low-impact development, which not only has low construction costs, but also is more environmentally friendly; in the arrangement of the interior space of the building, besides of planting space, we also set up education, catering, rest, processing and other spaces to provide more employment opportunities for local people; in the design of the agricultural business model, we have selected healthy and economical vegetables, which can not only improve the diet of the local people, but also further increase their income; finally, at the level of social impact, we are committed to effectively improve the local residents’ living condition. What’s more, the positive social value of the site can also promote the further promotion of this model in the city.
